FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SECOND WORLD WAR VEHICLE DONATED TO CANADIAN MUSEUM BY US DONORS

Oshawa, Ontario, March 1, 2023 — The Ontario Regiment R.C.A.C. Museum has acquired and will display
a very rare WW2 Mk II 1944 Daimler Scout Car known as the “Dingo”. The vehicle was purchased from a
US collector with the assistance of the Abdouch Family from Round Rock, TX, USA. Charles and Dora
Abdouch donated the funds to purchase the vehicle and transport it to the Ontario Regiment Museum in
Oshawa, ON. Charles Abdouch commented on the reasons behind this generous donation; “As children
of Veterans, we would like to honor the memory of every vet by providing this WWII armored vehicle.
The stories of those that served in it can be used to educate all to the price of the freedoms we enjoy.
We thank the Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum and the volunteers for their efforts and dedication to
providing a place where these stories can be told”.

The Daimler Scout Car, known in service as the “Dingo” (after the Australian wild dog), is a British light,
fast four-wheel drive reconnaissance vehicle. They were designed in 1938 and saw service with Canada
and all Commonwealth countries during the Second World War. Canada produced a version of the
vehicle known as the “Lynx”, and both served side-by-side with Canadian reconnaissance armoured
Regiments during the conflict. The UK built Dingo is very rare as they were exported to every continent
during the War with the exception of North America.

Museum Member and Second World War Veteran, Trp Don White of the Royal Canadian Dragoons was
very pleased to learn of the donation to his local museum;“I was pleasantly surprised and excited when I
heard our museum was getting a Dingo”, he commented “I was in a recce troop during the War which
consisted of two Dingos and two Staghounds. This was a great combination to do the difficult job we had
at the time. I can’t wait to see one again when it arrives and would like to thank all that have made this
happen”.

This rare Second World War vehicle will be put on display in the Military Vehicle Conservation Centre at
the Museum during March Break 2023 and will be part of regular Museum events and demonstrations
moving forward.

The Ontario Regiment R.C.A.C. Museum is home to a historical vehicle collection of over 120 military
vehicles. These vehicles include jeeps, trucks, armoured personnel carriers, and tanks, and are all kept
fully operational by the Museum’s volunteers. In addition to an extensive static display section with
artifacts dating up to 200 years ago, the Museum prides itself on making history come alive.
