TANKS ROLL IN THE SNOW AT NEW MUSEUM EVENT

Leopard 1A5BE in our Tank Arena this winter

A New Year is upon us and we have so much to be thankful for here at the Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum. 2018 was a very formative year for the organization with new staff, new vehicles and most importantly a new museum building which is now home to our very large collection of Tanks and military vehicles.  The Military Vehicle Conservation Centre had it’s grand opening in August of last year and has been a “game-changer” for our museum.  We now have the climate controlled space to store and protect our vast fleet of vehicles and display them.

So what is a museum to do with this new space and breathing room? Why not expand our operations and programming into the Winter! In 2019 the museum will remain open 12 months a year as we now have the facilities to display this historical military hardware through the cold and wet months of a Canadian winter. The museum will be open to the public Wednesday’s and Saturday’s all season for the public to visit and enjoy. But wait…  there is more!  Why not have a winter Tank Saturday?!

With a new 17,000 sq/ft museum to keep the vehicles and our visitors warm we decided to host our first ever Tank demonstration event during winter.  On Saturday February 9 you can visit and enjoy a new and unique experience in our winter wonderland as we present: TANK SATURDAY: Winter Warfare .  See Armoured and Military vehicles in action in the snow. Learn about Tanks and vehicles that were designed or adapted to operate in some of the most severe climates on the planet. How do the personnel stay warm? What are the challenges of winter warfare? Can a 40 tone Tank actually drift in the ice and snow? Experience this and more during our inaugural winter event.

After enjoying the live vehicle demonstration in the snow, warm up with a hot-chocolate at the Historic 420 WING Royal Canadian Air force Association and learn more about Oshawa’s rich aviation history here at the Oshawa Executive Airport. Tour the new facility and see over 70 Tanks and military vehicles on display, meet the crews and enjoy some “Tank Talks” with our vehicle experts.

We hope you will join us for this special seasonal event that is planned as an annual attraction.  This will be much different than our summer events and offer a unique, family friendly, fun and educational day of activity here at the museum. Bundle up, keep warm and we look forward to seeing you not only this summer for regular Tank season…  but this winter as well.
